Skill Builder of the Month: Increasing Self-Efficacy
Self-efficacy refers to an individual’s belief in their ability to successfully perform specific behaviors required to achieve desired outcomes. The concept was developed by psychologist Albert Bandura and sits at the core of Social Cognitive Theory.
At its essence:
It’s not just what people know or want- it’s what they believe they can do.
In health and wellness contexts, self-efficacy is one of the strongest predictors of behavior change, persistence, and resilience.

- “What have you already done that shows you’re capable of this?”

Coaching Asset: Coaching within NBHWC Scope of Practice
Context: Sometimes coaches must refer a client to another practitioner or speciality for a higher level of care, whether it’s before taking them on as a client or sometimes during an active coaching relationship. Situations that arise that are outside the scope of practice for coaches should always be referred out. Determining when a client could return to coaching can be a complex decision, for both the coach and client.
