Coaches sometimes need to interrupt. Doing it well is a skill that takes practice. Clients may ramble, loop back to the same story, or drift away from the session's focus. A skilled interruption is respectful, purposeful, and keeps the client's agenda at the center.
When to interrupt:

The client is repeating themselves without moving forward

The conversation has drifted far from the session goal

An important thread is being buried under other content

Time is running short and action planning hasn't begun

Coaching Asset: SMART Goal Fillable Form
Context: The SMART goal framework offers coaches and their clients a powerful structure for turning vague aspirations into concrete, actionable plans. Rather than working toward broad intentions like "get healthier" or "advance my career," clients are guided to define goals with precision — specifying exactly what they want to achieve, how they'll measure progress, and within what timeframe.
The template's action planning and accountability components further support the coaching relationship by helping clients break goals into manageable steps, anticipate obstacles, and identify a support network. For coaches, it provides a consistent, repeatable tool that can be revisited across sessions to track growth, while keeping ownership squarely on the client.

New coaches spend weeks perfecting their offer, pricing, and packages - then freeze when it's time to actually get clients. Getting all those details set "feels" productive, but avoids the inevitable...you need to talk to people!
The truth is, your next client won't be sold on your offer based on beautiful sales page alone. They need a conversation with you.
